Today windows has practically ruined our observation skills with its easy to use ‘Next, Next, I agree’ installation process. Many companies exploit this habit of ours to their advantage. With every installation, we get some other software free, and since we are too lazy to check it, we install them. The consequences of these are really frustrating.
We install many unwanted softwares like PC cleaners and registry cleaners. All of these can be removed via control panel or CCleanner. But many times we install toolbars, which then gets attached to our browser, creates its extension, changes our homepage to theirs and then changes the default Search Engine.
Here’s some examples of how a software manipulates you to use their products!
Normally users don’t care, they just take few extra steps by ignoring homepage and going to Google every time to search.
Why take so much pains each and every-time? Just change it to default or whatever you want. So in this post we will see how to change Home Page and default Search Engine and set it to the one you want.
Google Chrome!
- Click on the right side of address bar, and select ‘Settings’.
- Under the option ‘On startup’, if you have any toolbars the third option will be selected.
Click on ‘Set pages’
- Enter the home page you want and click Ok.
- Below Appearance you will see Search. Again if you have toolbars, it might be ask or websearch. Select Google or Bing.
- Now to remove these extensions, click on the button to the right of address bar, Select ‘tools’ and then select ‘Extensions’.
- Delete extensions that you don’t need. Yahoo bar, Smiley central, Ask toolbar etc.
Mozilla Firefox!
- Change the Search Engine.
- Navigate to Firefox –> Options –> Options.
- Under ‘General’ tab set your homepage.
- Go to ‘Privacy’ tab .
Under tracking select ‘Tell websites that I do not want to be tracked’
- Now go to Firefox –> Add ons.
- Remove the unwanted extensions.
