But for Linux Distributions, you need to take some efforts. If you visit the Skype site for Installation for Linux, you will find the installation process is nicely explained, but it is little bit lengthy and you’re creating soft-links, linking icons and creating shortcuts. If you’re a beginner, and you miss even one step, it will give you headache.
So here’s an alternate method, through which you can Install Skype in only 5 easy steps.
- yum install http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
Install the EPEL repo if you don’t have it!
If you get something like this, it means you have EPEL installed already. - wget http://www.bromosapien.net:8080/others/skype-4.2.0.11-4.el6.i686.rpm
Use wget to download the Skype rpm, so that you can directly install in using YUM. - yum install skype-4.2.0.11-4.el6.i686.rpm
Use yum to install the Skype package we just downloaded. - wget http://www.bromosapien.net:8080/others/SYRKIT-GPG-KEY.pub
rpm –import SYRKIT-GPG-KEY.pub
Run this, if you get a error about GPG key. - Just type skype in terminal, Or select it from Applications –> Internet.
Note : If you’re running Skype using terminal, make sure you logout of ‘root’ user and switch back to normal user.
