Windows XP was and still is one of the best Microsoft’s Operating System.
Some people are so used to XP, that they can’t use Windows 7. XP is easy to use, configure, and has everything sorted out. No complications. But, this is when you’re using XP. The installation Of Windows XP is slightly difficult. That is why Microsoft decided to setup of Windows 7 graphical as you can see in this post.
Windows XP’s installation is in the old traditional way, Blue background, White text and Yellow Progress bar.
So let’s see how to install Windows XP.
-
Boot from CD. You’ll see this screen.
-
The next step is Selecting the drive, where you want to install XP. By default your ‘C drive’ would be selected. If you need to install it on other drive, just select that drive.
– If you have free raw space, go to Unpartitioned space a partition and press ‘C’ to create a new Partition/Drive, and install XP there.
– You can also delete a parition by selecting the partition and clicking ‘D’. You will lose all the data on that drive. - It will then warn you, if your drive already has an Operating System. Just click ‘C’ to continue. Windows will format any drive before installing, so no worries. But again, After formatting, you’ll lose all your data.
-
Windows now will ask you to format this drive. You’ll have two choices, either use FAT (File Allocation Table) file system or NTFS (New Technology File System).
– FAT has basically two types, FAT16 and FAT32.
– DOS used FAT16 and XP uses FAT32. This is an old filesystem and less secure.
– So go for NTFS (Quick) since it is new, more secure and made for Operating systems like XP and later. -
Here, setup will show you the drive you selected to format.
– Before you Press ‘F’ to format it, check if you have selected the correct drive.
– Else you will format some other drive, lose your data and still have your old virus filled corrupt OS. 😛 -
Setup will then format the selected drive, and copy the files needed for installation.
-
Once Windows has done copying files, it will restart your machine.
– If the black screen comes with ‘Press any key to boot from CD’ DON’T PRESS ANYTHING. Else you’ll go back to Step 1. -
Now the installation process will start. It will take approximately 40 minutes.
-
Your Desktop will then come. If you get this screen, please check this post.
