Live OS.
Ok, now very few people actually know what a Live OS is. So in this post we will see What is Live OS and how you can use it to save your data when your windows crashes.
Lets consider two situations here.
- Suppose you downloaded some software or your PC got infected by Virus. Your machine is not starting properly, you’re unable to see your desktop.
- You forgot your administrator password. And you don’t have any other account. Plus you can’t even access ‘Administrator’ from Safe Mode. Well actually this is a worst-case scenario, but people have faced this.
So what will you do next? Call a computer technician, he will come, see Windows is not booting and he will tell you with a straight face that you need to format your Windows. Because that’s the only thing they do.
- You Machine is slow, you need to format Windows.
- Your machine has virus, you need to format Windows.
- You come across the blue screen of death often, you need to format Windows.
Well frankly, there are ways to reset your administrator password, which will be covered in next post. But suppose you don’t know how to do it, and you even want your data before that guy formats your PC, Live OS is the only thing that will help you.
What is Live OS?
Live OS is just an Operating System, like any other Operating System, the only difference being, ‘The whole Operating System is pre-installed the CD/Pen-drive’.
Yes! You don’t need to install Live OS. Insert the CD/Pen-drive, and use it. As simple as that. Finished with your work? Just eject the CD/Pen-drive. Live OS generally comes with Linux Kernels.
Uses of Live OS?
- Like we saw those two cases, where you can’t access your data in Windows, well just insert the Live OS, you’ll see your hard-disks. Take the backup of your important files, and do whatever you want to with that drive later on.
- Live OS can also be used, when you just want to check how that particular Operating System is. You can use its Live OS and it provides you an install option. If you like it, you can Install it. If you don’t like, eject the CD/Pen-drive.
- Generally without Live OS, if you need to use some new Linux Operating System, you would install it, check its features and if you are not satisfied, you’ll remove that Operating System.
- One time use. You don’t want to install anything, just use your machine, insert a Live OS and complete your work.
