  1. Check Recovery Email address and Mobile number.
    – If in the near future your Gmail gets hacked, your recovery e-mail address or mobile number will save you.
    – If it is not present, go to security tab and add it.
    – Amateur hackers, just change your password, they don’t take the efforts to go and change your personal info.
So you can easily get back your Gmail if you have recovery address.
    – Some hackers enter their email id, in your recovery address, so when you change your password, they can hack it back using the recovery id.
    – P.S. Don’t keep the same password for recovery email id too.
    – You can even check your last sign in time and place. If you think you’re hacked, you can verify it here.

  3. Turn on Notifications.
    – Notifications are those powerful messages that can save your life !
    – If you have entered your mobile number, each time your password is changed or some unknown device logs in  into your inbox, you’ll get a notification.
    – You can instantly know when you’re hacked.

  4. Turn on 2 step Verification.
    – 2 step verification is by far the most powerful tool Google has ever made.
    – In 2 step verification, every time you log in it will send a code to your mobile. When you enter that code, only then you can get access to your inbox.
    – If you regularly log in from a browser, just save that browser, and next time you sign in, it won’t send a code to your mobile.
    – If you lose your mobile or it is out of range, you can use the backup codes, google gives you when you turn on ‘2 step verification’.
    – Why use ‘2 step Verification’? Because even if an attacker cracks your password, he won’t see your inbox till he enters the code WHICH IS SENT ON YOUR MOBILE.
    – If you’re outside enjoying, and you get the code, you will instantly know that someone is trying to use your inbox, and you can change your password immediately.

  5. Create app passwords.
    – Now, if you turn on ‘2 Step Verification’ and enter your password in apps like Gtalk or mobile applications, it will show the wrong password. Because the app is trying to use Gmail, but Gmail is rejecting its request.
    – At times like this, you can create app password. Give the name of the app, and Gmail will give you a password.
Not your real password, but a temporary one generated by bots. Once you enter this machine generated 16 character password, your device will be registered!
    – People using Android can use this to get access to Gmail from your cell if you have 2 Step Verification turned on.
