How to speed up your Windows 7?

Everybody uses Windows, and we are at this point, that if you don’t use windows, you just can’t work.
But don’t you simply hate it when your windows freezes, or hangs, or goes in a dead lock moment, every other time you’re working?
In this post, we will check 5 easy ways that everyone can do, to speed up your Windows 7 performance and speed.

This is not a technical post, Even people from non-IT background can do these processes, and screenshots of each step is there to ease things for you.

1.Remove Un-necessary items from Startup.

  • Many users wait for about 2 minutes, even after the desktop is loaded!
  • Why? Because there are useless programs that are starting themselves in the system. Like Yahoo messenger, Gtalk, Skype, Google Updater etc.
  • To remove these programs, you can either use a Third-party software like CCleaner or msconfig (Start –> run –> msconfig)
  • If you’re using  msconfig, untick the programs you don’t want and restart your machine.
Start --> run --> msconfig

Start –> run –> msconfig

  • If you’re using CCleaner, go tools option, and select Startup.
  • You’ll see a big list of programs, that gets started each and every-time your desktop loads.
  • On the right side you’ll see a Disable and Delete button. Remove the unwanted applications, carefully!
  • Any mistake here would make your computer behave abnormally.
  • Make sure, you don’t disable the Intel Corporation Programs.

2. Uninstall those rubbish tool-bars and useless programs.

  • Go to your Control Panel, Programs and features.
  • Uninstall tool-bars (Ask, bleeko, smili central and stuffs), and remove multiple programs that does the same thing.
  • Don’t keep 5 video players, 4 photo editing softwares. The less useless programs, the less services and updates which in turns gives you more speed and performance.
  • Just don’t remove .NetFramework and Microsoft Visual C++ programs. Many windows applications need these two programs.

3. Clean your Registry.

  • Remove the redundant registry keys using any 3rd party Software like Registry Mechanic, or CCleaner.
  • I would personally recommend CCleaner since it is free and easy to use.
  • After uninstalling programs, some unused keys or missing registry values might still be there in your registry.
  • Clean that, and If CCleaner asks you if you want a backup, click yes.
  • Always Backup your registry, before making ANY changes and remember the path of backup file.
  • You can check in this screenshot, there are missing values, ActiveX issues and invalid rules in registry.

4. Use the Windows tools available.

  • Microsoft’s Windows in-build tools can make your hard-disk function smoothly, taking almost less than 1 second to open any folders.
  • Microsoft also gives you an option to Compress the Disk Space, which actually comes very handy, when you have more than half of the drive full. Select Compress Disk Space option and do a Disc Cleanup.
  • Just make sure, you don’t cancel it, because once you do that, the compressed files would be in blue, but the other uncompressed files cannot be compressed again.
  • Check the disks for errors and do a defragmentation. There are few Third party software’s too just for defragmentation purposes, you can use it if you want, but the inbuilt functions perfectly.

5. Anti-Virus.

  • Always remember,
    1 Anti-virus for 1 machine.
Multiple anti-virus won’t work properly, neither will they help you in catching viruses.
  • Install one anti-virus, update it regularly, and do regular ‘quick scan’ to keep your system protected.
  • MalwareBytes Anti-Malware or free Microsoft Security Essentials are really good..
